12v LED w/Switch for camper conversion
#1
Hi guys, currenty converting my M59 berlingo into a day camper for biking, have got some really nice flush mount LED's from ebay

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252040553918?_...EBIDX%3AIT

and a nice waterproof illuminated switch

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261162648830?_...EBIDX%3AIT

i've got it all wired up to some existing 12v wiring in my van from when it ws a working van with beacons etc, but when I switch it on the illumination on the switch is barely lighting up, compared to how bright it was before I had the LED light in the circuit...

I take it this is probobly something pretty simple but i'm no electrician!

ill post a pic rom mobile below to illustrate, you can see the LED clearly whereas when it was at full power, the entire switch was illuminated

Please post your schematics. I suspect that you have the LED in the switch wired in series with the other LEDs

Thought so.

There's 3 connectors on that switch.
'+' -This goes to 12V
A - 'Accessory'. This is where you connect the positive lead of whatever is to be switched on/off.
Gnd - Goes to chassis Earth, or battery negative. The 'Accessory' may also be connected to this point, if there's no other convenient chassis Earth nearby.

I earned that name for my computer collection, not my automotive skills...

Anyway, it probably won't hurt to explain what is going on here, for others also using these nifty switches.
The Lighted switch is actually TWO switches.
The first is 12Vconnector - switch - LED - Gnd
The second is 12Vconnector - switch - Accessoryconnector - your load - Gnd

And suddenly, in a very small way, the world became a little less weird...
