2.0 hdi blue smoke when idling
#1
Hi, I've just bought a 2004 berlingo 2 with the 2.0hdi engine and have just been on a run to Leeds from Carlisle, when I got stuck in traffic just outside Harewood I noticed that it was blue smoking from the exhaust when idling, which got worse the longer I was in the traffic. On my return from Harewood it blue smoked for the first half mile then cleared, no management lights on and no loss of power were noticed, any ideas anybody?

How many miles has it done? Does it smoke on the overrun?

Some smoke on idling from a diesel is usual, however not too much on the HDi.

My initial thought was valve stem seals, but if it doesn't give a little puff first thing in the morning and when going on the power after coming off the overrun then probably not.

One other thing to check is all your breather hoses are clear.

Don't like to see any blue smoke personally. Sounds like oil is being burnt somewhere, but as coco said its worth checking the breather hoses for a start.
