I've had my 57 from new & paint the strap twice a year with Waxoyl. If it's rusty but sound, apply when the tailbox is warm to encourage penetration(love that word) a couple of times. Then apply regularly.
The tailbox doesn't get hot enough to burn it off. Mine is still good & solid.

Had an email off a guy who had found my rear silencer repair through a Google search, link to the Forum, and my thread!
His had broke too and failed it's MOT. Confusedillyme:
Don't think he is a Member, so told him nothing!

No, I did reply and answered his questions.
Also suggested he join us. :woop:

I noticed mines rusted and broken too (though exhaust seems to be firmly attached) & my MOT is due in a couple of weeks. Called at my local branch of EK's this morning but they don't stock them and suggested trying main dealer.

Anyway I've managed to locate this one on ebay. It says it's for the 1.9 but I believe the back silencers are the same shape on all models so hopefully it'll fit my 1.6 HDi.

New exhaust clamp arrived today.

This is what was left of the old clamp. The only thing holding the silence on was rust, a couple of wacks with a lump hammer and it came off.

And here is the new one fitted :-)

Nice bit of info on this thread my exhaust clamp is broken the very same way.Was that ebay clamp a direct fit for the 1.6HDI? quite pricey to but cheaper than a new rear box.

Yes it was a direct fit. It's listed as being for a 1.9 but I guess the silencer is the same on all models.

Dudum I believe the seller I bought from on ebay is in fact clampco but they use another trading name. When the bracket came it had a clampco product leaflet with it that had same address on it as the ebay seller.
