An odd way to get here
#1
Thumbs Up
New owner from Sussex.

Fifteen years ago I went to buy a Berlingo. Did a test drive and all that. It would have suited us perfectly but then the company I worked for had some deal with a Citroen dealer ('oop north for some reason) and I ended up with a new Xsara Picasso that cost less than a Berlingo.

Eight years later I decided that a Berlingo was once again on the shopping list (dog, allotment etc.) and called in at another dealer, did some test drives but somehow ended up buying a year old C4 Picasso.

Fast forward to 10 days ago. The C4 Picasso turbo gave up the ghost after 75k and according to the dealer was beyond economical repair. The salesman who I bought the Pic from called me shortly afterwards and said "you know you originally came in for a Berlingo? I've got a nice XTR just come in, 5k on the clock and I'll do a trade".

Had a look and a test drive. A bit disappointed that the XTR spec from 18 months ago doesn't appear to have been as good as the XTR is now (no side air bags, no hill assist, no cruise control, no spilt rear window, no ESC  Sad) but it was fun to drive, had air con, a modutop, is relatively low tech  and I didn't fancy another Pic or anything else they had.

We've only done a few hundred miles in it but it goes surprisingly well, fuel consumption looks very good so far  and I love the space and versatility. Being able to get those rear seats out will be very useful (the C4 seats just folded down and didn't give that extra space there is in the Berlingo).

Now off to the tech section to post a question...

Ha! I've just seen what the editor has done to my name.. Wink

Cheers

The specifications you have will depend on what the original owner ordered, though I must confess I thought they all had Hill assist shows how wrong I am.

For some reason I really like Citroens but I'm not sure why as I've had so many issues with them over the years!

A Visa where the clutch pedal linkage broke after 50k, a CX that was a money pit, an original Picasso where the engine mountings went after 60k and now a turbo going after 75k in the C4 Pic.

I did 180k in my Saab 9000 with very few issues

We'll see what happens with the Berlingo...........
