Rear suspension twang...

My wife notified me of a noise coming from the rear end yesterday!! on taking the van for a spin, there is a twang, spring like sound from rear when going over speed bumps. havent had any chance to look at it yet, anyone had this problem?

Hi, check the rear brake regulator behind the o/side rear wheel.
There is a large spring on that which rusts up, give it a smear of grease on the fixing points. Confusedalut:

Let us know if it cures it. :thumbsup:

Hi as rustscrat says its the load sensing valve spring, I got a replacement off eBay for it and it has done the job

On looking at diagrams on servicebox, i could see how i would get a twang noise, but i did have a problem like this years ago on a escort where the regulator spring was rusted and wondered if the van had one, thanks lads.. will have a look later and let you know.

What is servicebox, my Haynes manual dos not show photos or diagrams just a cuple of sentances about removing and refitting
as usual.

Download M59 file (MK2 Service Manual) here :

You will find info on load sensing valve / spring adjustment within above manual.
Youl will need some brake line pressure gauges to calibrate the spring tension.
