hi
i have a moduroof with bars fitted across.
how much weight can these take?
i want to carry kayaks, a frenzy(small) and a tobago(big).
i dont want to pull the roof out if i stop fast!!
would i be better of with the bars fitted to the actual roof?
thanks

Maxium weight for any load bearing on the rubbing strips is 35kg. With the Modutop bars mounted transversely you can load them to 70kg. However, bear in mind that this is for downward forces only, not any load applied sideways (cornering), forward (braking) or upward (wind resistance when driving) or any of these if affected by crosswinds etc.
Personally, I would get seperate bars that mount to the fixings on the bodywork.

Hi there slightlee! I wouldnt put any significant load on the Modutop
as it's merely an insert and is secured by a being glued into a rubber sealing strip like old car windscreens were!
If that roof seal starts to leak you are looking at a large job to 100% re-seal it.
I don't even take mine through an automatic car wash!

I would agree with the others here, and not use the integrated modutop bars at all, but instead go for a two or three bar set-up that attaches to the body mounting points.
If the eBay ad is talking about "2008 onwards" than they are likely to be for a mk3 Berlingo and so will not fit yours.
2005 Berlingo Multispace 1.6i Desire (Iron Grey)
If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.

Hi Lloydyboy the Modutop bars are entirely different to those on a van which are mounted direct to the body.

Hi Ol'Jeffers! Call me thick if you like mate but are the Modutop bars the ones that are factory fitted, the ones that run the length of the vehicle from front to back?.... If so I aint got a clue how you'd secure any load to them safely, let alone two kayaks!!!
