A colleage got an advisory on his mot for this.

The garage says because the wear indicator is beginning to show on the right hand side he should get it changed.
Sorry for the huge image -you may have to scroll around to see all the numbers
What do we all think?
Advisory yes possibly, but Illegal?

Look here at an official resource and make a judgement .... http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_410.htm

Geoff. ( Personally I wouldn't fail it just make an advisory comment )
I would expect an advisory for this and think it still to be legal. Whether it's desirable is, of course, a different question altogether.
Tracking is slightly out if wearing on one side more than other and pressure is too low if wearing on the outsides more than the centre.
1.6mm is legal limit.
2mm is an advisory.
I would ALWAYS change before 2mm.
I always thought it was 1.6mm throughout the middle band of the tyre, but apparently its 1.6mm through the middle 75%.

Looks like he should be OK if that 1.6 is on the horizontal grooves. Still, that cause of uneven wear should be a priority.
In Geoffs link there is reference to 1.0 mm over the rest of the tyre-which contradicts with both the links' own material and Andre's diagram(which it verifies as ok)
Horrible tyre anyway....

Illegal no! not yet! but very soon.
They did right to make it advisory and to draw his attention to it:thumbsup:

Get it changed ASAP the consequences of not doing so are dire.
Yup I agree, an advisory is about right.
It's not great is it.... an advisory for sure, but imo there is still plenty of life left in that tyre, best get it changed before the next MOT though.
It looks as if the tyre has been under inflated.
