Hi all,
Joined up a little while ago and introduced myself but haven't posted since then, just been browsing.
Recently, I'd noticed a burning smell coming from my car when it had heated up and was a bit confused as to what it was. It didn't smell of antifreeze and there were no other signs of a leaky heater matrix, and the engine wasn't overheating...

...well, I lifted the bonnet at the weekend to check the oil and found these Rolleyes

I'll try and remember not to leave tools under the bonnet next time I do any work, the melted plastic took a fair bit of getting off Angry
lol, what were they resting against? Glad it wasn't something more serious, which it usually is by Sods Law!
Yeah, I was dreading having to take the whole dash out or similar to replace something more serious.
They were lying on top of the heatshield on the cat so the plastic drooped all over the place and was hanging down the sides of the heatshield. When I noticed, the car was cold and they were stuck solid, took a bit warming up to get them to peel off...
Looks suspiciously like a pair of electricians pliers, now with uninsulated handles.

You were lucky they stayed put and didn't tangle with anything rotating or the outcome could have been worse.....
This made me Smile..............
Am glad no serious damage was done though......

Great looking Berlingo you've got there bud>

Thanks a lot, strange how it seems to be running smoother than ever now that I know the funny burning isn't serious Shy

I suppose it's good they melted in a way so that they didn't slip off and fall into the belts or something..
Sounds like the sort of thing I would do! By the way, Is that a Harley under what's left of your pliers?
Yep good news all round

..... actually this reminded me of when a collegue of mine left half a bottle of coke wedged in an engine bay.... same smell... came back two weeks later complained of a plastic smell???..... took a while to find the cause!!

Yeah that's my dad's Sportster, hope he doesn't see the picture and realise I took it with the melted pliers on his seat!
