Cambelt.
#1
Hi All,
Just wondering how much work is it to replace the Cambelt on a 2.0l HDI.
Also, how much can you expect a garage to charge to carry out the work ?
Thanks,
Mike.

A couple of years ago, on the same engine, all in, cost us around £150.

Best to buy your own Cambelt kit from Citroen (or a proper one), just for the peace of mind that your mechanic isn't putting his wifes old one in yours.

Also a good job to keep ontop of your fan belt at the same time, 'cos if that snaps, could take your cambelt with it! :censored:

Might be worthwhile having water pump replaced whilst belt is being replaced.

Hi Mike, judging by the dates you are probably sorted out by now - but for other members, I have just replaced my timing belt at 87500 miles. Easy enough job except for the extremely limited space and access to a few bolts etc. I did mine outside the house with a trolley jack and one axle stand. 8mm drill bit to lock the cambelt pulley, 2.5 mm drill to lock the floating crank gear, 4mm pin to lock the Auxilary belt tensioner. Didn't bother locking the flywheel - just marked the crank gear with a sharpie. A good quality cambelt kit such as "Gates" comes complete with new cambelt tensioner and idler pulley. It makes extremely good sense to renew the water pump too. If anyone is planning on doing the job themselves - just give me a shout if you need any advice!
