Hi,
I wish to transport a lot of paving bricks in a Berlingo van mk1.
Does anyone know the total weight I can carry in the back of the van?
Its a friends and I am unsure whether its a diesel or petrol model - does this affect the weight I can carry?
Thanks in advance

600 or 800 depending on the model. petrol or 1.9d likely to be 600, 2.0hdi likely to be 800 but best to find out for certain.

I think the max weight includes the driver and any passenger too?
So include your own weight to the mix as well.

The payload of the Berlingo van is linked to the power of the engine.
The new Berlingo with the 75ps diesel engine has a payload of 625kilos between the axles.
Thus the more powerful diesels can carry more weight up to the 800kilo maximum. Is the max payload weight not stated in the logbook?
Just had a look at the van sales sites and there seems to be a little confusion about the payloads. Generally, though the 1.4l petrol and the 1.9l diesel Mk1s van seem to have a 600kg payload.
However I also believe that the age and mileage of the van has to be taken into account here especially if the shocks and other suspension components are getting a bit tired!
Hope this helps.

Mk1 Berlingo 1.9s were rated as either 600Kg or 800KG - they have different rated torsion bars on the rear suspension, it is nothing to do with engine output.
