still tempted to blank egr any disadvantages crop up
#1
2007 1.6hdi.

Still bothered by the egr. Trying to figure is its better or worse to do it

Like its ment to bring down combustion temps but is there any future problems to th extra heat or could it be a potential advantage because the van heats up faster

These engines are designed to have an EGR valve unlike older engines that had them fitted as an after thought. The EGR has its own port at the rear of the cylinder head rather than being plumbed into the exhaust manifold. I took the EGR valve off mine to inspect it and it was as clean as a whistle on a 70,000 mile engine. I have left mine alone.

Mine runs 100% better since blanking.
Picks up quicker and seems to have more power, although no proof of this.
Fuel consumption is same; certainly no worse.
Cost £3+ for the blank, and half hour to fit. (Longer if you have to remove the air filter and housing, which I didn't, cause it's in the shed!)
Used a GPS type app to test the 0 - 60mph, and it was about 16secs.
Not scientific, but seemed fairly accurate. It's posted on here somewhere.

Easy to do it. Id machine a tight stainless plug and slide into the egr pipe at the manifold. Small weld to stop it moving after.

Just want to make sure I dont cause problems down the line.

Id certainly try to make the mod easily reversable-it might not help and also it might not get through an emmissions test.
Luckily with civil service cutbacks were unlikely to see random roadside checks at present (although if you are near a DOT weighbridge its less unlikely)
Possibly not something to take to an MOT test
It is on my to do list.
But not right at the top

It would be very easy to reverse. Nip of the grinder and pull it out.

No checks here in Ireland. And iv doe'd a transit with a blanked egr and no problem

No emissions test on a Diesel - just a visual smoke test, at the moment.

Blanked it, drove it round the block. If anything felt like power was down. So whipped it back out. Gonna leave it the way its intended

Next step clean the intake. Very tempted to use one of the sprays. It looks like a hoor of a job to take it off.

No emission test?
I beg to differ. Mine nearly failed MOT on emission test last October.
Have the print-out to prove.

Passed. :woop:
Was wondering how my emission results compare to other members?
The pass/fail limit is 3.00 l/m (for a turbo).
The engine oil has to be +80c (mine was 83c).
3 consecutive (pass) results are required for the test.

Mine were:-
1.74, 1.48, 1.41 (l/m)
The average was 1.54 l/m (a pass).

Having nothing to compare these figures to, was wondering if 1.54 l/m is good, bad or indifferent? Confusedcratch:

That was my previous post after MOT (with emissions test).
