#1
Just like to pick a few brains if you all dont mind, done the search thing and i have got a long listConfusedcratch:
1.Rev counter not working
2.Starts first turn runs great for ten seconds then seems to drop to three cylinders with lots of grey/blue smoke, but seems to go back to four when revved a little smoke clears a bit then drops back to three.
Up to now have changed fuel filter and air filter and when primed with manual pump,it dont seem to get any harder to press.
3.EML light on.
Its a 51 plate Forte1.9d all help would go down well many thanks.

Would expect it to be a dodgy sensor. Find out why rev counter not working first. Over to more learned Bingo owners for more help. Blue smoke is a bit worrying!

I think you need to get it connected up to a code reader or even better lexia and see what codes are stored first.

Check continuity on the crank angle sensor; it's usually pins 1&2. After that make sure no antifreeze crystals are visible inside the connector plug for your coolant temp sensor (green or blue, usually on or near the thermostat housing).

Load test your battery, and check the alternator charging voltage.

Right today i had a little play cleaned all connector plugs seemed all good to me.
Started car no smoke at all for about one minute then seemed to drop to three and smoked like hell(not an oil smell more like a diesel smell like an HGV towing a heavy load)
Changed filter housing, again started well no smoke for a minute then back to the norm.
Checked all fuses changed crank sensor still no rev-counter.
Any ideas folks?

Tested battery and charging ok.
Could it be an injector breaking down? as i have cracked one and four injectors and it then drops to running on two.

got to admit, it sounds like an injector if it's dropping on 3.
Is there any smell of chip fat etc.

No smell of chip fat but it does smell like one of our artics at work when its first started and setting off with 24Ton on the backRolleyes
Did all the checks that Addo suggested and a few more aswell must have the cleanest connections in the north-west.
Started it up today before i went to work (work afternoon shift) put key in turned ign on let glow-plug light go off and it started within 1-2 seconds,no smoke and steady tick over then after 10 seconds of running sweet first puff of smoke then clouds of it.
The smoke does not increase any when more throttle is applied stays about the same.
Many thanks for the replies folks i dont intend to find out whats wrong and then go missing its a really good forum this plenty to read and digest.
