1999 Berlingo 1.9D - Lez Compliant or not?
#1
Hi,
Can anyone tell me if a T - Reg 1999 Berlino 1.9 Diesel is ok to use in Londons Low Emmission Zone? Some people say yes, some say no it has to be an 02 on Hdi model. The Tfl site isn't much help as it says it isn't affected by the LEZ but sometimes vans under 3.5 ton are .....

Can anyone who actually uses an old MK1 in London (or not as the case may be!) let me know - I have some work on down there soon but don't wan to get back home to a raft of fines !

I work in the LEZ area sometimes with my 2000 Mk1 Berlingo 1.9d DW8 and it's exempt, but I had to fight to get it in.
Initially I received a notice saying that my berlingo was not going to be compliant because of it's age & unladen weight. I questioned the weight issue as the berlingo was under the specified weight. I had to send an application in with a photo of the rating plate to prove it's unladen weight. They sent a letter with an exemption for my vehicle. However I wouldn't just go in without that offical letter.

I was under the impression that only large vans (and above) were subject to the Low Emission Zone?
Cars and motorcycles do not have to be compliant.
However, delving a little deeper...
If the gross weight is less than 1205kg, you are ok.
If it is more, then you are not.
Either fit a filter (expensive), or pay £100 a day (very expensive).
Probably best to phone them (0845 607 0009) and don't forget to thank Boris.

Surely that should be 1205 tonnes unladen weight or I will have to get a tuk tuk and go on a crash diet to get under that limit.
Are we there yet????? Huh

I received a letter from Boris in 2011 telling me to stay out of london because I was Fat & Dirty.
I think I got it because I was registered to enter the congestion charge areas.
When I telephoned they said that the records they worked on from the DVLA showed Berlingos to have an unladen weight of 1500kg putting them above the 1205kg limit, I said no they are 1185 unladen. They said prove it , so I did
They required :-
A colour photo of the chassis plate
A copy of the V5C logbook
and a completed copy of the LEZ registration form.

I eventually received a letter stating that my van was compliant.
I've travelled in many times since and never been fined.
It's daft really as it only applys to vans, had I been driving a Berlingo multispace with the same engine it wouldn't apply.:brickwall:

Thats what I thought?
But the TfL / Lez website clearly states 1.205t GVW, which I understand to be Gross Vehicle Weight.
I only go into London about once every couple of months now, and the HDi is fine anyway.
Also.
The site makes me smile because if you input your diesel van (under 1.205t) into the vehicle checker, its says that TfL classes it as a 'non-diesel car'.
Only in Boris World.... Confusedillyme:
