Clock light circuit failed?
#1
The backlights in the clock have stopped working.

As they were cheapo LED's I assumed they'd all failed and ordered some decent replacements.

These do not work either!

So I went to Halfords and bought a standard 286 filament lamp just to check.

This isn't working either! :brickwall:

Just wondered if anyone had any ideas as the clock itself works fine, and still gives door open warnings etc.

If it's the back lights in the multifunction display then these are on a separate board which plugs into the main display. A disconnect / reconnect might sort the problem out.

Thanks for replying - I've unplugged and dis/re-assembled the thing numerous times now. Do you mean the printed circuit board that can be unclipped from the main housing, and has a 'prong' with about 4 contacts on it? Yup took that apart too..... Smile

In the Bsi, check fuse 4 as this feeds the light circuit via a diode and transistor.
Check that the contacts of your filament lamps are positioned at "10 past 8" in the sockets.
Do you have a test meter of some kind?

I will do that rustscrat thank you, I may have popped a fuse somwhere while tinkering, especially as it looks easy for the 'legs' of the lamps to splay out and go across + and -.

Yes I've got a multimeter that does VDC Smile

The replacement part arrived today and has a working backlight, so I have no idea how such a simple thing can stop working.

Been laid up since Weds with food poisoning so didn't get a chance to look into the original unit any further but I very much appreciate your advice rustscrat. Smile

Most probably the lamp driver circuit. Check your radio control on the steering wheel works as some of the earlier versions dont support it.

Just realised I really didn't phrase that reply very well - I now have a working backlight and as I never got a chance to investigate further I just thought I'd plug it in see what happened and it worked straight away.

So I have no idea how the original part can have a faulty backlight when the screen and the complicated stuff still works!

Thanks again rustscrat Big Grin

Hi guys, strangely last week I put LEDs in my partner radio display to replace blown bulbs and they stopped working yesterday. Putting tested working bulbs back in still nothing. Strip down of display to test and no power to light circuit. Everything else works but doesn't light up. I considered running a switched live to it, or even a separate led wired elsewhere into the gap inside. Both these seem a little desperate if its just a matter of changing the display. I assume that's what chronyx means by replacement part?

Also, do we think the cheap led replacements caused this? Thanks

Yes I ordered one from here:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Citroen-C2-C3-...19db647b86

I put the latest LEDs I had ordered (From Autobulbs Direct Ltd) for the previous one in, and they all work fine.

What a bizarre fault.

It could be the previous, cheaper eBay LED's caused a fault. First time in many years of tinkering I've known that to happen.
