lost key, bought used key, need help programing!
#1
lost my remote key so I bought a used one off ebay having found that you can program them yourself.

I followed the instructions given in the How To section of this forum but it didn´t work. any other suggestions as how I can program this remote?

Its to an 04´ berlingo. the two button remote key that doesn't fold.

to give a better picture of the situation, i got an uncut key that i thought id move the microchip into after programing and having the key cut. i have a key that is original but not the remote key.

so I'm putting the original in the ignition and turning it to accessory position. then taking the unmatched remote key I'm trying a combination of holding the locking button down for ten seconds or pressing lock then unlock. then turning the ignition off and waiting 5 sec - 1 min and testing the remote function. it is not working, does anybody know why , or what to do?

i don't want to buy a new remote key from the dealer, here in sweden a replacement remote key costs 2600 krowns which is like 230 pounds. please help me!!

The problem your faced with is does the second hand fob work?

Have you put a fresh battery in it?

bought the fob off ebay, haven't seen it work but was was described as fully functional.

it shouldn't matter that the transponder(little black chip thing) isn´t programmed for programming the remote lock part or?

the battery is fresh, i just put a new one in.

ill have to get the transponder formatted and a key smith ill check with them if they know anything about the remote part as well.

No no it shouldn't matter that the immobiliser chip isn't programmed

All you can try before getting it tested is,

Put it together with the other key, place in ignition and turn to ignition +, within 10 seconds press any button, release button , take key out of ignition, get out of car, then test to see if it worked

I would try this a couple of times before getting the fob tested

Have you got a pic of the remote your trying to program?

Do you have any auto locksmiths in Sweden that can sort out your key for you. In the UK when ive needed new keys or replacements for cars Ive used an mobile auto locksmith and they have supplied and coded keys for fords, VWs and Renaults no problem. From memory the renults cost me 60 quid to fit new chips and program and the vw was 100 quid as it needed a new fob/ blade and coding. A hell of a lot cheaper than a dealer, The guys van was packed full of tech and he said he could do nearly any car and rebuild locks to match keys as well.
Are we there yet????? Huh

so here´s a link to the key i´m trying to program

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Citroen-2-butt...7675.l2557

it looks just like the key i had.

my key that works is the original but the flat one without the remote. so the key im turning the ignition with is not the one im programming, if it makes a difference.

by `ignition +` do you mean the one click to where it only lights up mileage on the display or two clicks to where accesory power is on.

i have tried both but i simply haven´t gotten any response from my car.

so i guess i wonder if the microchip board in the key im trying to program might be bad or if it doesn´t match my car. but it does look just the same.

went to a locksmith here who has been in business since the 60´s and he was like i have no clue how to program a transponder which i found odd. and then he said maybe try this one other place, as if there is maybe one place in my city who maybe could do it. i thought these transponder key reader-copiers were standard equipment for locksmiths. then i went to a mechanic down the street and he referred me to the dealer as the one place i could get a key even copied.

i of course wanted to avoid the dealer, as they like to have ridiculous prices. a new key was 240 quidd. but i went there nonetheless, i was able to order just the metal part of the key for just 20 quidd, apparently with this key model you can do that.

so now i have a key blade coming. whats left is the transponder and the microchip that does the locking and unlocking remotely.

i checked with a locksmith and he couldnt do it, he was nonetheless the largest locksmith in my area. he was no help- went to the dealership and they could order just the keyblade for a fair price, and they could normally program keys for like 60 p. which is normally what a locksmith might take, so ill probably leave it to the dealer. hopefully the key i ordered is programmable!

Does sound like the fob isn't working I'm afraid it needs to be tested.

Over here in Britain we have a company called timpsons who cut keys , I went to one to get a spare key cut and the transponder coded and they said they couldn't do it its a dealer you will have to go to.

So I went to another timpsons who said yes we can code it and did so next day!

And there the same company!

I've just got a new key from my local garage, 79euro, then they had to buy the code from citroen,25 euro. Then my garage had to use the code to programme the new key, 30 euro,,, total 150,, but yes, you have to buy the key code and then get it programmed onto the key,,,

This might be worth a punt.

You don't have to buy the key code at all...

As long as you have another key with a working transponder then it can be cloned that's how I did it, 150 euros sounds very expensive

Did you have a working key?
