B9 Pug Partner pulls/drifts to the left - help please
#1
Hi,I really hope somebody could help me.

I just recently bought from the dealer approved used Peugeot Partner Van B9 1.6Hdi from 2012 with 17k miles on the clock.
Shortly after purchase I realized that the van pulls slightly to the kerb. I took it to the local wheel alignment place and they adjusted the tracking, but it didn't help. So I took it to closest to me Peugeot dealer to check it and they adjusted it again but this didn't help. They had it for a day. So I brought it back and they had a look again which took another almost whole day and advised me to take it to the dealer where I bought it from, as there's nothing they can do. So I did. Its an hour drive from where I live if I'm lucky.
The dealer I bought if from had a van for a day. They admitted there is a problem, and asked me to leave the van for few days. I left it with them for a week. When I came back to pick it up, what they did is change all four tyres and said - its all done. Guess what? It still drifts to the kerb. It maybe a little bit better but when I drive on the motorway I have to constantly gently counter steer to the right, otherwise after 50 - 100 ft the van wonders to the left. When the camber of the road goes to the left the van drives straight! When I drive on the wrong side of the road with camber leaning to the right van drives straight or very very slightly to left. If nothing else its very annoying mental strain when you drive long distances. This is what I do for work every day.
I do understand things like road camber, but my previous van, renault kangoo was going straight, as well as my family car toyota rav4 which with very wide tyres is even more prone to road camber, it drives better. I have driving licence for 19 years and owned several cars and only once I had similar issue when the fault couldn't be found in 2001 seat toledo. But that was sorted in the end.
So what I need to do is to try to find where the fault is and then let the dealer sort it. Dealer claimed that there's nothing wrong now. I believe they did try to fix it but they cant or dont know how. I need my van for work, I cant just keep living it in the garage because it cost me money and reputation.
The van has been checked for the accident damage. All ok.

Any help and suggestions are highly appreciated.

Hi maybe try an accident repair specialist as they will have alignment equipment/knowhow that a dealer doesnt.
My 2012 van runs straight no matter what so it certainly isnt you or your environment

I googled wheel alignment and I just had an idea, maybe someone have his wheel alignment sheet from the garage to share? I just looked through my measurements and I can see that cross camber is not exactly as target data should be. For example:
front axle camber left measurement +0°18' (target data +0°00' allowances from -0°20' to +0°40')
right measurement -0°05' (target data +0°00' allowances from -0°40' to +0°20')
the cross camber measurement is the difference between left and right and target data is set at 0°28' with no allowances.
According to the sheet I have my measurement is +0°23'. Let say its close enough. But rear axle cross camber measurement is +0°04' and target data is set at 0°20'. If rear axle has no way to adjust then this maybe the problem??

Anyone with wheel tracking experience or would like to share his measurement to compare?

This may help, but i've searched for a solution to the abnormal outer n/s rear tyre wear.

I have a company 63 plate L2 partner, picked it up just under 8 months ago with 145 miles on the clock and now it's nearly on 23k, all miles driven by me so i know i haven't hit anything, but i noticed that the n/s rear tyre was wearing really badly on the outside edge, so much so that it had at least 3mm on the inside but little to no tread on the outside.

But it's also pulled to the left since day one, i googled and found out there is most likely a problem with the rear axle alignment, meaning a warranty problem through shoddy quality control.

Another thing it's started doing lately since having new tyres fitted, is it has started pulling even more to the left on acceleration..

Not that impressed with the van as a whole, the gearbox even whines :/

So it looks like the dealer needs to replace the rear axle?

This isn't isolated to my van, a colleague with an identical van with near identical miles (20K) has exactly the same problem..

If i'd spent my own money on it i wouldn't be happy at all!!!!Rolleyes

Hi
Im sorry to read about your Berlingo pulling to the left.
I would suggest that you take it back to where you got it from, quoting the Sales of Goods Act, and state that the vehicle is not of a 'satisfactory quality' and hence 'not fit for purpose'. So long as you have made the dealer you purchased vehicle from aware of the problem as soon as you noticed the fault, you are entitled to a refund, repair or a like replacement. It may be advisable to get an independant rac inspection (cost of £183 if you are an rac member or an extra £20 if you are not a member), and specifically ask the rac inspector to kindly pay particular attention of the pulling to the left when test driving the vehicle. You then write a letter to the dealer saying you are very unhappy with the purchase, that you phoned them a few days after purchasing the vehicle, and please find attached a copy of the rac report, and as the vehicle is not of satisfactory quality, and hence not fit for purpose under the Sales of Goods Act, you would like a refund immediately. If you dont get what you want, then the small claims procedure is your next best friend, assuming the vehicle is under £10,000.
Unfortunately pulling to the left is a common problem, and dangerous..... i found this out, as i recently got a Berlingo car from a dealer. It was pulling to the left. I did the rac inspection route, then wrote the letter and attached report, registered letter, and next day got phone call offering me refund, minus cost of tyres id purchased and rac report. Still under the Berlingo spell, i then went to test drive another Berlingo yesterday from a main Citroen dealer. This car too was pulling to the left, but the Citroen dealer just did not understand what i was complaining about.
I will keep an eye on this thread.

Yeah, it would seem it's a common problem!!

I'm leaving the company in 2 weeks and it'll be due it's 25k service then, i'll mention it to my fleet guy but not sure what'll happen..

It'll certainly be a van to steer clear of at my new job!!

But thanks for the info Smile

Lads I brought this up in January when I got my new van. Exactly the same as above. Even worse on motorways. Citroen had the van back admitted there was a problem and said it was fixed but it was never right still is not.
If he need any help I'm in. Have a sore right hand trying to keep the van straight

Hahaha chat soon.

Thanks a mill,
Just sent email. I actually though I was going mad with my new van its so annoying. I gave the van to the brother few months back and we was saying its a joke and bring t back. it actually dangerous to drive he was saying. I agree of course but Im just so use to it after 20kms driving having to hold onto the wheel to keep it straight on the road
thanks and sure we see what happens. I wouldnt have my hopes up.
