Which car guide.
#1
I don't quite know how to break the devastating news but, according to the 2015/16 car guide the Berlingo is a don't buy.
They say it only has  a 3 star Euro ncap rating & poor fuel consumption to boot.which.co.uk/mpvs
I can only suggest,& it is only a suggestion, that we all sell our Berlingos (& tepees) & buy something inherently safer.
my opinion,& it is only my opinion,is that we all buy Hummers & we'll all be safe as houses.
Meanwhile, having a new Berlingo on order & can't be arsed to cancel it,I am going to live dangerously.
So when you see the only Berlingo on the road coming towards you, drive into the nearest hedge & hope you haven't been seen by mad Ron.
You have been warned. Angel Big Grin Rolleyes

I seem to remember that the safety ratings are based on a number of things but what gets you a higher rating is plenty of airbags. The 2014 model Eurocap tested didn't have lateral airbags and knee airbags aren't available.

All 2015 models have lateral airbags now so I think it might get a higher rating next year.

I had a look at the report and you have to remember Which? is very big on safety and I quote " a 3 star Eurocap rating makes it an automatic DON'T BUY".

Then again, in the owner satisfaction table for MPVs the Berlingo rates joint top with the Grand C4 Picasso and the Honda FRV. All get an 88% rating.

Good eh?

The point I was trying (probably badly) is that reading the headline, nobody would buy a Berlingo,They hide info & by doing so distort the truth.

So if you taped a couple of cushions to the bumper then it's four-star all round.  Or just don't drive like a pillock and go running into people.

Mine got 60mpg on a 200 mile trip the other week.  The insurance is amazingly cheap too, so presumably Berlingos don't cause a lot of damage on average.

I think they should stick to testing kettles and blenders or whatever they normally do.

Doofer.You're preaching to the converted.
As you probably gathered,my remarks were with a very large tongue in cheek.
My present mk2 returns 55mpg easily & I'm no slouch.
If the new one, which claims a better mpg, equals it I will be a happy bunny.
Thanks for your comments.

I'm not sure they "hide" info or distort the truth. I don't think they have any agenda except to present what they see is good or bad about a car.

The safety rating is there for everyone to see and they make it clear that a "poor" safety rating makes it a "don't buy" in their opinion. That's their criteria and whether that's important to you is another thing.

What is interesting though is that the Berlingo is top of the tree for owner satisfaction.  Those tables are compiled from Which? members completing a survey so perhaps that's what folks should look at rather than the road testers' opinions and the lab tests.

You pays yer money...

Some of the newer alternative cars with a similar powered engine do seem to have exceptionally good fuel consumption. The Berlingo is tall and boxy which affects fuel consumption, but the benefit is it's carrying capacity.
