Service operations required for 1.6 airdream 2012/24k miles
#1
Hi all, trying to put together a list of things to specify before I shop around for servicing. Car is a November 2012 1.6 Airdream.
From what I can tell from logs/receipts so far its had the following:

22/10/2013 5,356 miles Citroen Dealer
oil
oil filter
passenger compartment filter

02/10/2014 10,874 miles Citroen Dealer
oil
oil filter
passenger compartment filter
brake fluid
diesel filter

23/11/2015 16,758 miles Evans Halshaw
oil
oil filter
above two items documented so going to assume nothing else.

Car is going to be 4 years old on 16th November when the next service is due, and will estimatedly be at 24,500 miles by then (23,338 now).

Not sure what to specify given the car isn't doing the average 12500 miles a year - are some items to be changed based on mileage despite the low miles per year, and do some items have to be changed strictly based on age i.e. every 12/24/etc months? Would rather hear from you guys then take everything I am told at the garage at face value!

In terms of the sort of driving the car gets - I would describe my driving style as calm and relaxed. I don't accelerate fast or brake hard and i tend to keep an eye on the instant mpg display every now and then. I do drives to the in-laws every month or 2 (3 hours there 3 hours back motorway 70mph) ,and every year a long drive for holidays ( 7 hours away), but apart from that the car is used almost every day for very short journeys - does this aspect put it in the arduous category for servicing?

Oh almost forgot, my MOT is due for 21st September (for some reason) and so this is the reason I'm looking at this now as why not get it all done at once

Oil, oil filter, air filter, diesel filter and passenger cabin air filter are just normal things to change every 12,5K miles (although yours never changed the air filter), and perhaps since you have MOT coming, also check the following:

- cooling circuit water check/renew if needed;
- break pads and disks (check/renew if needed):
- tires (check/renew if needed);

Inspection-wise: they will look at tires - depth of threads and evenness of wear, all lights and light alignment, windscreen washers functionality (front and rear), steering alignment, breaking efficiency (handbrake included), suspension and suspension/transmission structure integrity, overall oil spills from the motor and gearbox and finally they will also test for exhaust gases, to see if these still comply with the vehicle´s standards...

Luis, thanks Very much for your advice. I will look to have those covered then. Will see how much is being charged around here including the Citroen garage tomorrow.

I notice brake fluid is sometimes an item for services. Is this about a full emptying/flush and then refill of new brake fluid? And is it needed?

Brake fluid should be changed every two years, generally we flush the old fluid through with a pressure bleed machine.

Any decent garage will have access to Autodata or similar and can look at what your car requires based on age/ mileage.

Just as an update, Citroen have provided a full service for cars over 3 years old for £195. I thought the cost was lower than I was expecting from a main dealer, though not as competitive as the independent quotes as you'd expect. I freely admit that maintaining the main dealer stamp collection in the log book had a sway too. Among the myriad of supposed checks it included the following changes:
oil
oil filter
air filter
diesel filter

I added an MOT for £35 which passed.

I had the pollen filter and brake fluid change (thanks for pointing that out Lighty) done as well separately to reduce cost.

Thanks to forum friends for you advice.

I had a full service (£195) only last week for my 2010 model XTR and was pleasantly surprised at what they included.

They changed the oil, oil filter, drain plug and washer, air filter and diesel filter.

Along with this they do a full check of the car and then list things that will need to be done on the car.

I had "Front brake discs corroded - replace discs when brake pads next need changing, oil leak from the air dozer and leaking eloys fluid pouch"

They even threw in a diagnostic for free (normally £80) because I was having a full service, where they found an intermittent fault with the 'Differential Pressure Sensor for the DPF'

Labour on the invoice only came to £62.20 +VAT
