Wipers operating erratically and parking incorrectly - James Gardner - 13-04-2015

Any advice appreciated.
My wipers have started coming on and making a random number of passes when I turn on the ignition.
When I operate the wiper switch they operate at medium speed, regardless of the switch position, make several passes then stop until the switch is moved to another position.
They also park in all sorts of random places on the the screen.
Any ideas?
Motor, switch or software problem?

I have the same problem . My wipers stop in random places, not were they should do. Also they operate only around 8 seconds, always the same time and then stop. If i put the AUTO position in the switch, they work in medium speed, doesn't matter if it is raining or not. Fast spped work in fast speed but the same, only 8 seconds and stop in random position.

Before the BSI was standard the old wiper motors had a switch in them that set the stop position for the blades
Since BSI I think its all controlled by it and those problems were an indication of either a bad earth or a faulty BSI .
Water getting into the BSI was often blamed.

Check that the steering column is earthed and no signs of water/dampness near the BSI box which may be under the steering wheel on your vehicle depending on which year and model you have.
