Drive shaft oil seal leak - jonnie100 - 29-04-2015

Just replaced the passenger lower wishbone arm as ball joint was shot. I noticed oil leak coming from drive shaft to gearbox end last week so ordered a new one which I fitted at same time. Today I notice oil is still dripping from the seal, it's not residual oil from the job as I have cleaned up area a few times today and still drips after driving.
The old seal was different, it had a rotating toothed wheel pressed into one side, the new one didn't but it is supposed to be correct for my car. Should the seal have this toothed wheel? Also, the old seal had the toothed wheel side fitted facing the gearbox end, is that how it is supposed to be?
Thanks

Theres 2 seals that fit that same one. I was given a toothed one to replace my leaking one just before christmas but my mechanic said that there isnt any teeth on the one that was already on the van. So i took the toothed seal back to the shop and got a refund. Went to another garage/shop and asked did they have any seals without teeth because the one i got had teeth. The lad there said that the toothed one would have fitted it alright, but i got the toothless one anyway and had that fitted instead.

By the way this is a common fault with these when you change your ball joints. It always takes out the driveshaft for some reason and thats when the leaking begin. I've done the same but still haven't fixed it. It doesn't seem to loose much oil from last top up. I'm gonna have to order one as well and replace the gearbox oil....might as well.

Thanks for replies. After some searching, it seems like both styles of seal are suitable and it is just a design change.
Does anyone know the correct fitting for the toothed one, does the toothed side face inwards or outwards? Mine was facing inwards and looking through the vehicles service history last night, was only replaced 18 months ago by a Citroen garage due to a leak.
