bottom tensioner - johntychwith - 11-05-2015

Hi ive been told a whining noise which sounds like ive got a 50cc under the bonnet is the lower fan belt tensioner and is a common fault . Can anyone confirm this? Doesnt whine when idling only when revving up. If it is the tensioner can someeone send me a link on where i can buy one and what exactly this tensioner is called / looks like. Thanks

there are two 1.9d engines , what year is it and is it a XUD or DW8 engine

The XUD has a manually adjusted one and the dw8 has a automatic adjuster

Try this one. it may fit but because of your AC not 100% sure.

You can see your one if you take off the cover at the pulley end of the engine , its under the o/s wing and has about 4/5 plastic screws/studs. You can then compare , if in doubt take it off and try a local motor factors.

Or it may be the alternator/ ac compressor /power steering pump making the noise but the tensioners are normally guilty.
