Newbie - General stuff 1.6HDi 90 2010 - Oggy - 03-12-2015

Greetings all. Newbie to the Berlingo club due to recent purchase of 2010 1.6 HDi 90 VTR for our disabled son. Not too bad with mechanics having restored a few classic cars and bikes, and would be very grateful if anyone could give some guidance on the following...

Does not appear to be Haynes manual for this model/engine. Anything similar about? Workshop manual?

Anything in particular I should do to it or watch out for? I intend to change out oil, filter and air filter soonest.

Type of oil used please? 5W/30 rings a bell....

Is the steering wheel column adjustable? If so, how! - profuse apologies for being a berk, but I cannot see anything obvious...

That will do...for now...

Much appreciated

Mark

Citroen recommended oil is Total ineo ECS 5w/30 or vist websites of other oil makers & input reg number on oil finder page to find their correct grade. It's vital for these engines correct grade of oil is used & also correct drain procedure. Click here

Adjust column, reach underneath to left side bottom of column, hook fingers under lever, pull forward & you can adjust column.

Hi Oggy, welcome to the site.

You need to be very particular with the oil type and change times to help the turbo last on these cars. Please to a search for this on here.
Yes you can adjust the steering, from memory the adjustment is done via a lever by your left knee under the column.
Sadly there is no Haynes book for these newer Berlingos.

Thank you gents - much obliged. Incidentally, in order to drain the oil, is jacking up one side adequate to get at the drain plug - or do I need a trolley jack on the subframe under the front of the vehicle? Also, which side?

I jack up the one side with a trolly jack much easier and safer than other jacks. If you plan on doing your own maintenance then invest in one. You can get a reasonable one from Halfords or Machine Mart for not much money.

Use this site for your oil its very cheap and good service https://www.nielsencdg.co.uk/acatalog/Total-Quartz-Ineo.html

And with the trolley jack, get one of those insert things so you don't damage the car.

The air filter is a right pain to get at, almost as bad as the pollen filters (if you have A/C), but essential as it may have been 'forgotton' by a lazy previous mechanic. You don't wants chunks of old filter heading towards the turbo!

Chaps

Yes indeed, I have read up on the air filter and it looks to be somewhat fiddly to say the least. I do set great store by proper maintenace - especially oil changes on diesel turbos - but Citroen do not make it easy!

I am afraid I also never trust any dealer or any chain-store garage with regard to previous service history. Much rather DIY if I can - so I can be 100% certain it is done.

Is the oil change and oil type the same for the 75HP engines?
