MIDI MOD - Lock Security - BASS-lingo - 25-10-2011

Hi all. i bet many have you seen the odd berlingo Van with a big ugly dirty lock on the back for security. as standard the berlingo locking system is poor at best. after opening and looking at the locking system on the rear doors it wouldn't take much to brake and enter. a few years back the company i work for had extra secure locks fitted after one of our vans was broke into. i forget the company who installed and supplied the new locks featured in this post but i am sure i can find out if a few off you want to follow in this way.

This post shows how to fit that lock, as i have had to remove it from an old van an install the lock on a new van.

Note. care should be taken throughout this process in order not to lock your doors for good.

see attachments

1. Standard Berlingo rear lock

2. The old lock and the new secure lock

3.
Step 1. Pop of the plastic door cover. i used a wide chisel within the plastics and metal door frame, then in a twisting motion the lugs pop out.
note. the wriggly buggers will find there way back in if u place them back over the holes and u will spend ages going back around on your self.
Step 2. Pull the flat plate that sits around the lock keeping it in place.
Step 3. Remove the arm connecting the lock and door catch leaver, now your lock should be out.

4.
Step 4. mark out the new lock bolting fixings. Much better than a shitty plate.
Step 5. Drill out and bolt in place.

5.
Step 6. attached a good strong chain onto the lock arm and down to the door catch (were you removed the original) and sorted. new lock installed.
If you have central locking you will see an arm that sits on the door handle and pushes it down to open the door catch. push this out of the way to disable the handle.
if you dont have central locking i am sure you can figure out how the handle releases the door catch then DISABLE IT.

6. I fabricated a metal shield in order to prevent access to the mechanism if the door panel was smashed open.

7. Thease are some extras i put on the new lock to make it more difficult to pop the lock.

8. The finished product. the handle no longer works to open the door plus the lock cannot be easily bust open.
