One ticked of the wish list! - tucker - 03-12-2011

I picked up bargain new 185/65/15 Hankook tyre off ebay from a place just up the road from me. £20 inc fitting and balancing so well happy. Stuck that on my spare as I have winter tyres on at the mo.

On the way back I called at a few scrap yards as I'm after a spare set of steel wheels, but the only berlingo there had 14 inch wheels.

However, I noticed it still had the roller parcel shelf which was on my wish list as I don't much like the folding one I have, although the missus prefers it!

£20 seemed a good deal. I sort of thought they tended to be £30 to £40 in general. It's cleaned up well and a squirt of oil in the roller has it running nice and smooth, so a nice days berlingo bit hunting!

If any knows of any 15 inch steel wheels going, I am after some over the next few months.[/i]

I looked for ages last year trying to find a set of 2nd hand steel 15" rims without any luck. I ended up buying four new ones from my local main dealer for £100. A set did come up on eBay shortly afterwards (typical) but at around £50 plus shipping, the price difference didn't seem to justify the time and hassle of tracking down a used set.

Chris

Is £100 the set price for them do you know?

I have found some from a scrap dealers, but it's 60 miles away and £50 for 4.

That is exactly what I found; £50 plus shipping or time & fuel to collect. The dealers price them per wheel, so you should expect to pay around £25 each.

Even better as I only need three as my spare wheel is no use to me as my LPG tank is where is should be sited.

I'll give them a try.
Sounds like you did well or my local stealers are a rip off.

I just rang them and they qouted £41.28 per wheel, so £123 for three!! Eeek!

Back to the scrap yards, unless another main dealer is less.

It could be a seasonal thing with lots of people after rims at the beginning of winter. Confusedcratch:

I struggled to find any at this time of year, and ended up having my winter tyres put onto the existing wheels. This at least gave me another few months to find the second set of rims for the regular tyres.

I have just had a look on-line for the part number (5401H7) but there does not seem to be much showing up, and nothing being quoted any cheaper than you have found.

That's what I have done, winter tyres onto my rims and now need to pick up a spare set between now and March.

I found some in a breakers yard, but they messed me about a bit saying they would be off the car and ready to collect, but when I rang on the day to make sure they hadn't been removed and the worn tyres handn't been stripped off!

If it is any consolation, I have found my original thread on this subject and I paid £155 for my four. Confusedillyme:

£100 must have been wishful thinking/beer talking so actually the price that your dealer quoted is about right, and I am an...
