My Partner Escapade - waue1978 - 11-07-2012
It took me a while to find one (mainly because not many have air con), but here's my Escapade. Had it 3 weeks now & whilst it isn't the cherished low mileage example I was looking for, it's a solid base to work with.
This was the day I picked it up:

Engine cover was present, but I had to remove it as it was only held on with 2 dampers & was chafing one of the hoses:

This light crazing effect appears in a few places on the bodywork, but no signs of shoddy respray anywhere. Any ideas?

Interior comes with worn out door handles as standard. Replacements in the correct colour are nearly £20 each! Plain old plastic van items are less than £15 posted for the pair, so ordered a set. May not look as pretty at first, but they'll certainly stay presentable for longer:

Folded the rear seat down to find that I couldn't get it back up as the centre seatbelt jammed. Should have learnt from my old 406 to pull some out before folding. Unbolted the seats so that I could get the backrest vertical again & the seatbelt came out again. Something to do with ball bearings I'm told:

Getting it to my standard of cleanliness is a long & arduous task (anybody that knew my old 406 can testify to that), but I've managed to get some odd time this week to start work on it. So far I've got to the door shuts & interior:

Also fitted a new bracket that holds up the overhead shelf at the front. for the future (apart from a lot of tidying) include fitting my Sony stereo (with upgraded speakers), some 15 or 16ins 306 or 406 alloys & some Berlingo Desire or XTR seats (for the armrests & picnic tables).

It's a Berlingo in all but name. Plus I really wanted the Escapade with the plastic trims & that semi-off roader look. The body colour trims on the Berlingo look nice, but they also show up when some ignorant helmet parks too close & opens their door on it (lots of them around here).
Whatever I got was going to end up as a work in progress as I wanted the Desire interior, but didn't want the glass roof.

Only joking...
Liking the colour and the light-guards. The latter are like rocking-horse poo, unless you like paying dealer prices?
Anyone changed the grille?

I think that the areas of 'crazing' around the fuel filler are merely the result of the last owner removing the cap with the key on a large bunch of keys. Seems that the lacquer is worn through. A quick rub down and a coat of clear lacquer might improve the appearance.
If you change the front seats for Citroen seats with folding tables you may have difficulty matching the fabric patterns unless you intend to change the rears seats as well.
I read somewhere here on this site that the handle inserts were only about eight quid, I need one for my drivers side as that too has 'ring damage' and the paint is chipped.
My Berlingo Desire has 15" wheels and that's as big as you would really want to go. Low profile larger rims will tend to make the ride too harsh and may well accelerate the inherent propensity for premature wear in the suspension and steering components.
I think you did very well and overall the car is great. May I ask how much you ended up paying? :thumbsup:

They're actually more of a grey background, but they look great at night with the lit up white needles.

Ended up being a shade over £3k. Was aiming at up to £4k for a low mileage one, but was struggling to find a good one with air con, so had to settle.
The seat change would be the full set anyway. Easiest option would be a set from a later Escapade with the same interior for the armrests, but the rears are easy enough to change & the Desire picnic tables would be good for the little man in the back. He is after all one of the main reasons that I wanted one of these & he was the one that called it "Daddy's Car" when we went to look at it.
Handle inserts range in price depending on colour. Checked on Servicebox before ordering & found that they range from £4 each to the £20 that my originals cost.
15ins wheels is probably going to be the way forward as I think that 16s may look out of place anyway. Saw one with a set of 306 5 spokes (think they were on S16s, but not the GTi ones) & they really suit it well. It's a shame I sold my 16in Nautilus wheels from my 406 as I think they would have looked quite good on there.
Here is my old 406 at it's peak before I sold it (& it's now on Autotrader again, but nobody can get hold of the seller) to give you all an idea of what I do with my cars:
