M49 Rear Seat string operating thingy - Husqyman - 11-07-2012

The piece of string with a bit of plastic on each end that unlatches the seat base when back is folded forward has broken:whistle: at the seat back end. Has anbody here made a repair or is the part easily available from the main stealer, I have not tried there yet.

Never bothered fixing mine, just pull it by hand when folding/unfolding the seats. Sort of assumed it would just break again if fixed. Would be happy to be told otherwise!

I have never noticed a "piece of string" anywhere. I just press the button on the top of the seat. The back then tips forward, and if wanted, the back and the base can pivot forward together. How does the "string" come into play? Can someone take a picture?

Thanks

EDIT: Apologies....just me talking rubbish as usual! Take no notice!

Yes! Photos of this piece of French hi tech equipment would be a bonus!

I did a write-up elsewhere on the forum about this and was going to make one but they are only about £4.00 from main dealers so hardly worth the time and effort. From memory the hardest bit was getting the bits of sheared-off plastic out of the seat back and squab but about a 5 minute job to do... easy-peasy..

Um, mine's a Mk 2 and has them too. They connect the seat back to the big metal hooks which hold the back of the seat base down, so that when you fold the seat back down the string gets pulled and the hooks get pulled out of engagement (they're spring loaded).

If they're not broken it works just as Chris has described.

If they are broken, you'll see a bit of string (maybe five inches long?) around the back of the seat base (one each for the left and right bits of the rear seat) - just pull them up to release the seats.

Girlfriend has the car today else I'd take a photo.

Well then...all part of the Berlingo learning curve! So I take it that they're present all rear seats but you can't see them until they break.
I'll go back and edit that post! :whistle:Confusedillyme:

All clear and understood now!

you can see then when they're intact, just easier to see them when they are broken.

Mine were broken and I repaired with shoelaces and key rings at the top the bottom just tied onto the peg. they will break again for sure but its a doddle to put new on. Shoe laces always a good 'get you home'. Smile
