Intermittant engine diognistic light - Duncan - 11-10-2012

Hi all, here comes a newbie. I own a 2004 1.9D van
Recently I have noticed the Engine diagnostic light coming on intermittently, and for a short time. Keeping an eye on it I notice that it happens almost always when the engine is pulling or accelerating at at low revs. The light will go out when engine load is reduced. Have not noticed it at higher speeds.

My local garage put it on the computer, fiddled about a bit, and sent me off saying that the Injection timing is to far advanced. If it persists he must change the "timing regulator". That was the literal translation from the French
Not entirely sure what he means by that? Is he talking about the EGR ? If so what has that got to with timing. I have to say I am more used to older petrol engines ! Can any member possible help please?

Did you get the fault code number? If not, can you get it from the garage?

Much easier to help if you have that

When you accelerate the injector timing changes and when you deaccelerate the injector timing resets. There are sensors which control the amount off advancement and retardation of the timing. Its possible one of those your Frenchie is meaning. It could be the one on the fuel pump or crankshaft thats faulty.
I dont think it would be the EGR hes meaning but you never know.
Engine nos would help.

Cool
