Mk3 BE4 gearbox refill - kingy1912 - 18-09-2013 Hi there, I've noticed a few threads on oil fills but no. With specifics to what im needing to know regarding it. I have a 1.6 hdi 90bhp engine and as far as im aware this is a BE4 box. I decided to tackle my wishbones myself and although its a job i could do dismantling and pulling apart hubs and drive shafts are a pain in the hole. I moved the drive shaft about to try access the bolt directly underneath it and as a result lost a good bit of gear oil. Car has done 101k so im just gonna drain and refill according to the berlingo workshop manual i downloaded. However its not to clear on how to access the breather on top of the box, do i need to strip of the battery and the holder etc or can i access it without doing so or maybe there is a shortcut to access it like the old cantina boxes via the side? Could anyone ease help me out with this? Cheers Shod be **xantia boxes auto correct is a pain in the bum lol RE: Mk3 BE4 gearbox refill - steve valentine - 19-09-2013 Can't you access the filler/level plug, on the side? Assuming there is one ... ... ... RE: Mk3 BE4 gearbox refill - Lighty - 19-09-2013 Can't remember how much you have to strip to access the plug, but think it can just be done with the battery etc in situ. Depends on what you are filling it with thou, as we have a pump with a long tube. I will check it out for you tomorrow if we get a BE4 box vehicle in, Iam sure we will. RE: Mk3 BE4 gearbox refill - kingy1912 - 20-09-2013 Ok thanks the workshop manual i downloaded states it has to be filled through the breather at the top and not via the side. I managed to get to it with a bit of messing about tight spaces big hands and all of that lol. I filled it using a syphon pump just pumping slow but steady to try prevent spillage. I managed to get it ok but thanks for your replys. Cheers |
