Fuel Primer wet when used - Barkas - 08-11-2013

Can anyone here tell me how reliable / unreliable the 1.9 diesel fuel system hand priming pump is as whenever i change my filter and prime up with ignition on, the primer plunger gets wet with diesel, as if the plunger base seal has gone, its done this since new, now 11 years old and Ive changed the filter 3 times over 90,000.
Are they prone to fail or draw in air, and do you have to replace the whole filter / primer pump assy together. Thanks for any help.?

It's definitely a known weakness! The buttons are usually soaked in diesel from use!
The whole thing needs replacing if knackered completely. Is about £45 from autocentres..
Are you having problems starting/ running?
If not, I wouldn't bother changing it personally Smile
I never have Smile Smile
