What is the best way to make the cigar lighter permanently live so that I can plug my solar trickle charger in?

Install a hidden connector in the glove box or somewhere else where people won't notice it, and use a different connector.
Fuse it with the weakest that works with the panel.
The normal Cigarette lighter is a really shoddy design. I wouldn't leave anything plugged in over time...

Have you got a Multispace? If so the one in the overhead locker is permanently live.

If not the cigar lighter how about the accessory socket next to it?
