1.9D Timing - GEORGEMXR - 08-12-2013

Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has had anything to with the camshaft and fuel injection pump pulleys. I was reading when you do the cam belt and you've locked them in position, you have to slacken them off and turn them all the way clockwise on the slots. Is this the correct thing to do and anyone done it?

Cheers

You don't lock the camshaft and fuel injection pulleys in place, What you do is lock the camshaft and fuel pump and crankshaft. Once these are locked the cam shaft and fuel pump pulleys have to be loosened to allow the cam belt to move them when the tensioner takes up the slack in the belt. Turn the pulleys clockwise (1.9 DW) before fitting the belt will allow them movement when the belt takes up the free play in the belt.

There are usually three bolts in slots which lock the pulleys.

Its a form of fine adjustment which really depends on the position of the tensioner pulley.
