can anyone tell me what the horn and windscreen wash have in common electrically on a 03 multispace 1.4i-- both have stopped working after the horn came on itself at 2 o clock in the morning on a wet night as i was driving home . i had to disconnect the battery to kill it and sit for a while and though it bipped a couple of times i managed to get it home . the next day the windscreen washer refused to work and i stripped out the pump and tested it and it was working - have scoured the forum and tried working the horn with the steering lock on to see if it was a bad earth --no joy. i've also done a bsi reset to see if that would help

At a guess I would say that you have a leak and water has got onto the BSI board
on the right hand side of the steering wheel in the console.
Both of these items are controlled by the BSI.

Please will a moderator move this thread to the correct

many thanks, this gives me an avenue to investigate --i'll gather info where i can and check all round the engine bay

First place you need to check is the scuttle. Remove the wiper arms and the plastic trim
and underneath once you've cleaned out all of the leaves, old bird's nests etc. you may
see where water can get in.
It may also be a good idea to make a splash guard that will fit over the BSI assembly,
I would use a piece of thin flexible plastic sheet or heavy polythene.

many thanks --had the fuse box open to the air and the heater on--went for a run to get some gentle heat around the bsi --problem being i don't want to strip out the fuse box till i have another to replace it as i have to drive 20 odd miles to work and home again in the early hours --if i can't use the car i don't have a job-so i'll have to struggle along till i get some hols in march

ps. thanksfor not saying 'did you check the fuses' as an old spark i always check the obvious first

I normally advise checking the fuses 1st as many folk don't start at the beginning & end up in the diagnostic poo. Us pro's are not always perfect,I've made silly mistakes in the past, non serious thankfully. So I assume the member is not skilled & start simple.Confusedalut::thumbsup:
