I have similar problem on my Mk3 atm, the fan will only blow on max setting hoping in mine its the relay or resistor.

You could try and see if your local council has a MOT test centre, they are supposed to be the best place to take older cars as they are not looking to make money off you for repairs.

Bought a similar one that covers the boat and under the seats, which are folded up permanently due to the car being used as dog transport. the mat smelt for prob 2 weeks before the smell began to fade...

Just to say that having written to said garages customer services manager, they agreed in the end to change the oil and filter FOC. Thanks for your comments
