Smoking startup and idle shake
#1
Hey guys  Smile

Any ideas on this https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_aFeQXANZ7M ??

It had the injectors cleaned a week ago at main dealer, they think its fine now and the shaking is because it had done 200.000km then some of them will Shake?? We got it 4 Month ago an done 4000km since. It had a leaking injector on cylinder 1 and a little on 2, but after i tightent it, there is no leaking, and it Shakes a little less warm.

It only smokes cold and has to stand still for 5-6 hours to smoke that ammount again. It started when the weather got Cooler from 20 degree C to 8-10 degree C but that where also when i tightent the injectors.

The shaking is worst when cold, get a bit better when its warm.

It starts without problems, in the video it stood for 24 hours in 6 degree C and it runs fine, no splutter or turbo lack.

Any clues what to do?

I'd have gone with the heater plugs needing changing, mines the same in regards to the start up smoke and I'm having them done on Saturday when it has its monthly oil and filter change,I'm no expert but I'm sure some lingo-wiz will pop up with a more detailed assessment given time...

Was it shaking before the injectors were cleaned?

The smoking when cold could be glow plugs? However to a point they are right at 200k it stands a chance the compression is down a bit. You could get this checked but the injectors will have to come out.

It sounds like a missfire to me so i would want to at least get the injectors leak off tested by a different garage, also check for fault codes and have a look at the live data. From what i have been told the injectors are coded and should have been recoded after cleaning, were they?

I would like to know if new glowplugs does fix your problem, maybe thats mine to  Smile But do yours smoke like mine, looking like a coal train  Smile

The shaking has been there all along. I dont know if they have been recoded, they had it running for some time on cleaner with the fuel tank being "offline"

As a bonus info i have never seen the preheat light go on, but have read that its normal and only light when its very cold?

Are the engine mounts OK?

I will say yes to that  Smile

Dont know if it is possibel to see in the video, but the light specialy in the roof, parking light and Rear light "blinks" a little to the engine vibration

If they only run some cleaner though the injectors i would say defo replace the injectors or remove and take into a diesel specialist for a proper recon.

The glow plugs work on cold start for emissions the light does not come on unless its below 0

So you mean that my vibrations i caused by a bad injector and the smoke maybe is one or more Worn glowplugs? Or just one or more bad injectors that May leak, so thats why it smokes on start up?

We got it first in august and there where no smoke at startup until mid october?

Can i still have bad compression, when it start great and runs without any missfire, Lack or any problems other thansen the shaking?

I would say more likely worn injectors but may also have 1 or more glow plugs down not helping. You really need to get it diaged and a leak off test done on the injectors before you start changing things though due to the expense. Low compression would be my last guess but stands to be the least likely.

Even with the milage you have on it there is no reason why you cant get it to run right but you may have to chuck some money at it.

By the way just a daft question when was the last time you changed the fuel filter and checked the air filter?
