I know what you saying about H4 other's had said the 501 were not lasting long i just pointed out mine were doing fine .
Back to the H4 led's they will be bright in the head light if your looking at them but the output on the road will be poor you will be better off as other's have said using night breaker's H4 bulb's .

I'll bet the beam pattern on them is terrible.

I doubt if LEDs could successfully replace halogen headlamp bulbs, simply because a LED of sufficient power could not have an adequate heatsink in the available space. There is no reason why a purpose-designed reflector could not use a LED though.

You'd be looking at say 15-20w to replace a 55w halogen, and that would need a finned heatsink say 80mm square, or maybe 40mm if fancooled. No way you could get that into the 'ole the bulb goes into.

That's even before you consider that a dip beam would require a reflector shape to match the quite different radiation pattern of the LED.

While back I did ask the MoT guy at Halfords if he thought LED sidelamps were OK, and he said that they were theoretically acceptable but could fail on being non-white or having a limited illumination angle. Best stick to bulbs until they get the issues sorted out, he said.

I've yet to find some 501 led lamps that survive more than a week in my berlingo
