Battery Light Staying On? Help!
#1
Hi, ive got a citroen berlingo 600d lx 1.9 diesel 2004 van.
The battery light is staying on when at stand still and no matter how much I rev it doesnt go off untill the car is moving.
Ive had a new alternator, and had a battery check and an alternator check and everything is fine. So im baffled any ideas please?

If the battery is fine and doesn't run flat or have difficulty starting the engine from cold and both the alternator and battery are new anyway then it's probably a BSI/engine management glitch.
The people who fitted the alternator almost certainly will have measured all of the relevant voltages and are satisfied that the charging system is OK.
If it really bothers you then the only way to sort it out would be to have a proper Citroen diagnostic check carried out.
The BSI is a enigmatic beast and does some strange things but a Citroen engineer can re-set it and the firmware can, I believe, be updated.
Hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction.Smile

Hi there,

i dont think i can help you much but as Ol'Jeffers said maybe its a BSI glitch, i do believe you can reset it yourself by going through a certain process at the minute i dont have it to hand but if you do a google search for BSI Reset that should bring something up. Hopefully someone else will be along shortly to help you out.

It's very interesting story but what voltage on a battery when engine stops, idle and 3500 revs?

Just sourced the BSI reset procedure for you if it is any good,
would be interesting to know voltages readings as pk7478 says.

BSI Reset procedure as this may cure your faults:

Put the driver's window down, lift the bonnet and ensure all equipment is switched off.

Ensure all doors are closed and remove key from the ignition.

Wait for 3 minutes, disconnect the vehicle battery and wait 15 seconds.

Reconnect the vehicle battery, wait a further 10 seconds (do not open doors.).

Switch on the side lights through the driver's window.

Switch on the ignition and check system's functionality.

Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds.

Remove key open & close door test central locking system.

Start the engine and complete the system's check.

Failure to follow this procedure could result in incorrect operation of many BSI related items
