Speedo / Instrument Cluster Removal
#1
I need to take the instrument cluster out on my M59. Am I correct in thinking that the cowling over the speedo etc is held on by clips and can be eased up / out?

Thanks

The top cowling slides out, it is only held by clips. Basically, pull towards you. It is not up, rather towards the driver. The speedo itself is more awkward and I initially thought it cannot be done. There is only one bolt holding it. Then the cluster is held by a clip behind the bolt. You have to push the plastic down to unclip it.  Then kind of pull towards you and up and it should come out.

EDIT: the cable at the back is short, so do not pull too much.

Thanks for the tip, I put a thin putty knife / paint scraper into the gap at the back and the cowling came forwards easily with a small amount of levering. In fact it was easier once I knew how, than getting the MFD out.
I've attached a picture that might help in case anyone's interested. There's a clip missing from mine, just like the picture.
