1.6 petrol mileage advice
#1
I'm looking to buy a berlingo. The 1.9 diesel I had my eye on has gone. I can test drive a 2002 1.6 which has had 1 owner and is apparently great condition inside and out, but has 85k on the clock. Is this Too high to consider? What should I look out for when inspecting?
Thanks.

No you should get 200k miles out of a petrol if serviced right.

86k is only 50k miles which is nothing.

Try get a gauge on there opinions of servicing, and how often

I would check to see if, or when it last had the cam belt changed. At nearly 10 years old and 85k miles it should have had it done. Otherwise I would be looking to do it right away, and factor this into the price.

I think that the petrol is often overlooked as people assume that a diesel is always going to be cheaper to run. Unless you are doing significant mileage, I really think the petrols are cheaper to run overall.

My mpg varies from about 30 around town to 40+ on a gentle run. You can feel relieved as well that you don't have to worry about the diesel's EGR/DPF/turbo issues that seem all too common.

If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.

Thanks for the advice.it had the cam belt done at 72k on one of its annual full dealer services.
It has a stamp in the book for each year since first registered.
Anyway, it seemed very good.......so I bought it. :-)
Very pleased to be on berlingo land. Wish I had an extra high head to take advantage of the space above me....

Ideal van for an undertaker with his top hat on .....

I am not tall but big bodied, my head used to rub on the roof of the 306 and a previous ZX and attribute this to a bald patch appearing on top of my head... but yes, acres of headroom in the 'lingo........
