Very interesting. I've just checked it, and was surprised to find that not all 1.6i 16V Fortes are equal.

16 Nov 2000 – 1 Mar 2001 - 12 months costs £205.00
1 Mar 2001 – 1 Aug 2002 - 12 months costs £180.00
20 Nov 2002 – 1 Oct 2005 - 12 months costs £180.00
1 Oct 2005 – 4 Aug 2008 - 12 months costs £200.00

Apparently on 1 Oct 2005, emissions went up from 175 to 177 g/km. That comes as news to me. What is interesting is that emissions didn't go up when the Mk 1 became the Mk2, but midway through the life of the Mk 2.

Can anyone explain this?

May have been a change in engine sizes? I bought a new 2.0HDi in 2005 which was replaced a short while after with a 1.6 HDi that was claimed to have the same power. Earlier than that my 1.8 16v changed to a 1.6 16v so the 1.6 may have been further refined?

All mk2 1.6 petrol engines appear to have the engine code TU5JP4 whether before or after the mid 2005 (MY2006) facelift. My guess is that the basic engine is identical, but presumably some change in the engine management caused the small CO2 increase.

PK will hopefully provide a more accurate explanation!

Parkers Wrote:1.6i 16V Forte 5d (00) 38 mpg 175 g/km H (road tax | company car tax )
1.6i 16V Forte 5d (02) 37 mpg 177 g/km I (road tax | company car tax )
1.6i 16V Forte 5d (SR) 38 mpg 175 g/km H (road tax | company car tax )

Whats the (SR) on the final forte? Im sure some VW 1.6 16v engines have this SR on too which i always took to mean that they had a switching intake manifold.

I thought SR was "sun roof" but wouldn't bet on it.

It could be, but i don't see how this would affect the tax.

I don't think that it would effect tax at all, more likely that Parker's just list it as a separate model.
