Glow plug ignition light

Hi folks,

i have recently joined the forum and have found just about everything i need to service my 1.6 HDI before she becomes a small camper van... i.e

• oil, fuel and air filter change guide lines in the how to section
  
• alloy wheel size and fitment in the general forum
  
• service intervals in the MK2 forum
  

I am greatfull for this info.

I am however confused about the glow plug light, in the past deisel engines i have owned i turn on the ignition and wait for light to go out and then start.

My berlingo van does not seem to have a light, is this normal for the model of van...? (1.6 hdi enterprise 2006/7)

Also can i purchase an engine cover for under the engine as my van does not seem to have one fitted as standard.?

Any help with theese issues would be greatly appriciated.

Glow plug light only comes on when temp is zero degrees.

Thanks for the info, i thought it may be something like that.

Ill get to test the theory as I live in inverness so will prob be zero degrees at some point this summer...
