Which power steering pump?
#1
The power steering is not working on my Mk1 1.8 petrol multispace without air con. The normal failure appears to be the pump but how can I confirm this? I do not want to change the pump and find it is the steering rack.
Also the pump pulley size listed for the car (no air con) is 133 or 114
. The pulley size fitted is dia 140ish, this is the size fitted to cars with air con. According to Citroen the pump orginally fitted was part number C4007V9 but they cannot tell me what the pulley size is (I can find out went I buy one! - not likely at their prices).
Questions:
Does anyone know the pulley size on pump C4007V9
What is the effect is using a 140 pulley when it should be smaller.

I am looking forward to fixing this - this is my first vehicle with power steering.

The belt is fine, and no sounds of it slipping. The fluid bottle is full with no signs of leaks. I was given the car with this fault, the garage said it would be expensive and she did not want to spend any more on it.

brand new they are about £280 but you'll get a good 2nd hand 1 for a fraction of the price.

Hi, I have an old pump which came off a peugeot diesel no A/C.
This Is part No. 4007c5. see below.
The diameter of the pulley is 131mm.
**Have just crossed referenced your part 4007 v9 and it is a 142mm pully. **

Thanks Rustscrat,

I have now got a reconditioned pump with a Dia 142mm pulley. What is the recommended grade of oil for the power steering? As I do not have a handbook for the car I do not even know what grade oil the engine likes, can anyone help.

The service manual recommends "Total ATX fluid". (automatic transmission fluid)
