Ok,
so, I took my berlingo Mk1 2.0hdi to my mot guy this morning, and was basically informed that it will fail it's mot if I put it through, and will cost about £200 to get it through based off a quick pre-test check he did. So, as a result, and being unemployed and unable to afford to run the van, I decided not to put it through as I can't afford it.
So, as the MOT is up on the 13th October, I now just need to sell the van as it is to anyone who wants it.
THE VAN
Taxed til end of Feb 2014
103000 miles on the clock
Engine runs fine, gets great mpg if driven well (over 3316 miles I average 49.27 mpg, and that is with a mix of short and long journeys)
Starts first time
No gear selection problems
No overheating problems
14" Peugeot Alloy wheels, tyres with decent tread left
Interior has no rips on seats, generally good nick but needs a valet really
Will come with new 5 litres of oil and coolant. And also a new oil filter and fuel filter. All unused boxed/sealed ready for a service.
Bodywork is generally very solid, little rust on rear arch as expected for age
THE PROBLEMS
The dashboard doesn't work. Only lights that do work on dashboard are airbag, oil, headlights/sidelights/full beam
I use a device connected to my obd port that shows my speed, rpm, engine load, coolant temp, intake temp, mileage. This device is pretty cool really, but is just occasionally a faff when needing reset as it takes a minute to reboot fully. Not really a big deal, but, I am being honest here. Some people have said this will be fine for an MOT as they have no working speedo on theirs etc. All I know is, it is more accurate than a regular speedo most likely.
Only has 1 key (don't get me started on the 'lovely man' who sold it to me)
Front right tie rod needs replacing
Mechanic mentioned front left needs something too I think
Front right cv joint needs replacing (possibly just the boot but not sure)
Brake pipes will need replacing
Front left side light bulb has popped out of it's housing, still works, but needs popping back.
Stereo. CDs play fine, but radio doesn't work due to aerial connector being broken
No service history (again, don't get me started on the lovely man who sold it me)
So, there you have it. It sounds really bad, but, if you know a friendly garage or are more mechanically minded than myself then it is a solid van with a decent engine that runs well and would be a great project or cheap to repair runaround. I'd be keeping it if I had a job and could afford the upkeep and insurance, but sadly I can't.
MOT is up on Sunday 13th October, so would need to be gone then ideally unless you have trade plates.
I'm not sure how much is too much or not . . . .
£300 ono
