2ltr HDI 2006 van. Whilst driving the other day the van suddenly would not rev beyond about 2K revs without dying as if about to stall. I decelerated and it ran fine below 2k revs. I thought it seemed like fuel starvation issue. Fitted new air and fuel filter next day but problem continued. The van starts and ticks over like a dream drives perfectly until you take the engine above the 2K revolution threshhold thats when is starts dying and surging. Yesterday I drove home on a fast stretch of road and booted it to see if it was a blockage. The engine struggled (dying/surging) at the 2K rev mark but suddenly the engine began to perform normally. Thought Id cleared it. Soon after I could smell diesel. Got home to find Id left a trail of diesel behind me that I discovered was coming from a fuel return pipe that appeared to have blown off a sensor on the return fuel line. Pushed it back on (its just a fricton tight pipe onto a spigot with no coupling) and it cured the leak but the engine was the same again (dying then surging then dying again beyond 2K revs).
I dont know what this sensor does or indeed if its anything to do with the problem but it seems that way. Any help from you expert gents as to what this sensor does might lead me to fathom it out.
