I have changed the matrix on xantia and one of the most problematic thing was to remove the pipe connection near the firewall in the engine bay. No matter how hard I pulled it did not get loose. I wasted many hours and my hand was sore from pulling and wiggling. Eventually I took a compressor and asked my uncle to give a little bit of pressurized air through a small pipe that was connected to the cooling system. As soon as I pushed the clip and gave a little bit of wiggle it flied off.

Thanks misspentyouth and Marklightfoot for the detailed write up I am attempting this on my '56 berlingo and I've almost gotten the dash out. I am overwhelmed to putting it all back - I'm not a mechanic , I'm a plumber!!! so hopefully logic and a bit of luck will do the trick.

Heater matrices a horrible job.
Did the missuses pug 106 a few years ago (she couldn't work out why her feet hurt when driving).
Boiling water tends to do that when dripping on your feet.
A beautifully easy job, IF, you are left hand drive, as it slides out into the passenger footwell.
Too bad if you are right hand drive, as the pedals and steering column are in the way & Out has to come the entire dash.
Best keep the pink antifreeze up to snuff.
