[Steering & Suspension] Lower Ball Joint
#1
Hi (First timer here), Got myself a 60 plate XTR, and need to replace the lower ball joint, anyone know what size removal socket I will need? Smile I know the job itself can be a bit of a pain, just don't want to buy the wrong size!
Thanks.

That is a lot of tripe !  Huh

Seemily the ball joint have now been changed from the type I was thinking about to a more awkward thing to change. I was thinking of earlier models , probably before the 60 plate ones.

Sorry for any confusion caused , Must use my new glasses and get out more .!

Thanks anyway, it's threaded into hub assembly rather than the lower wishbone(which it just drops into), just wanted to find out the tool size required to get it off.
Regards Nick.

I may be wrong, but it may not be a large standard type socket.

It might be one of these below, check first.

Also the torque setting is 23 daNm, which is approximately 170 lb/ft

If you follow the Citroen guide and remove the whole hub assembly, you will need to torque the driveshaft nut back up to 32.5 daNM or approx. 240 lb/ft

I have to do mine and was quoted £120 all in by my local Citroen dealership

I think the ball joints just uses a deep 41mm socket now, not the castellated socket above.

Thanks folks, got the job done, 41mm deep impact socket required, and straps & ratchets to secure the hub to something sturdy. Then just a breaker bar that fits the socket with a length of tubing to give more leverage, old ones came off quite easy, hardest part was getting the new ones back into the wishbone, definitely a 2 man job if doing the job without removing the hub assembly. :-)
