[Engine] Berlingo mk3 1.6hdi egr valve problem

EGR PROBLEM.....
Hi.everyone on the forum.i would greatly appreciate any help given regarding my Berlingo 2008 mk3 1.6hdi 75bhp box van.problem started when I was at traffic lights, started to accelerate and heard a loud noise coming as if this was from the exhaust system, took this into a car garage and found nothing wrong with exhaust system.found out that the sealed cap on egr valve had blown off causing this to sound like a monster truck.a pattern part was initially put on from euro car parts but when I went to pick the van up and started this found the engine management light had triggered, told the mechanic and he bought his bosch diagnostic machine, the readout was showing egr sensor fault, managed to reset this after the fourth attempt.picked the van up and couple hours later the engine management light came back on.could not figure out why.took it to my nephew who is a diagnostics technician to get a second opinion.he too says the reading on larger bosch diagnostics machine is coming up with the same fault as a egr sensor fault, he did clear the the values already in the system and reset this to tell the ecu it's a new unit and cleared the light on the dash.took for a test drive and then put his diagnostics machine to take a second reading but found this to be coming up still as a error, he did say that sometimes the cheaper pattern parts are no good and may well have a fault and suggested to get a more expensive better OE part and change this over.did try this by changing it to a OE part but same problem.shows anti pollution fault on centre console and engine management light still on.reluctant to accelerate in town especially when this involves stopping and starting and as the speed slowly builds up its letting out black smoke from the rear exhaust until suddenly it will accelerate normally and the smoke stops.this seems to run on ok on long motorway speed but engine management still permanently on....its now coming up to a week and have spent around £500 already and the problem still exists..absolutely pissed off!!...has anyone had any similar problems with the egr valve or could this be related to something different.please can any one out there shed some light as to how to sort this damn problem out.any help would highly be appreciated. ..thanking you in advance....dave

Random question but do you have a/c and is it working?

Another question are egr valves electrical or vaccum operated?

Not sure if it's vacuum or electrically operated...

Ah well if your pressure sensor switch is faulty on your ac it can cause issues cause it turns off the egr valve until the fix is done

P1462 was coming as a Citroen a/c fault when I checked but it more likely is the egr valve is at fault somehow

Next thing thing you need to do is to check is the wiring to the egr and check you are getting the correct voltages in and out of it.

Of course if its vaccumm operated you need to check for vavvuum and that the solenoid is working

OK.....not very technical myself but see if i make any sense. The old egr valve had a black plastic unit attached with a electrical socket plug(5pins).would that mean it's electrically controlled vacuum egr or would that be a completely separate unit?..when you refer to the pressure sensor switch faulty on the a/c is that completely a separate unit and any idea where this is located?
Would it be a good idea to get a auto electrician on to this or do you think maybe a main dealer would be able to sort this?...I may be wrong but I reckon main dealer may go down the route of saying replace a dpf/cat combined unit at a expensive cost and still not be able to sort the problem....I will get this looked at tomorrow and appreciate your experienced insight into this...Thanks. ..dave

I'd cut your losses & take it to a Citroen main dealer workshop to get it sorted. Citroen garage cost of fitting new egr valve is about £520, but if its been otherwise correctly fitted & is OE part it might be sorted with the main dealer software for much less.

I don't know how is it on the UK.. But here in Portugal we can easily find someone that can delete EGR with a blanking plate and then disable it on the ECU.. That way you never get the error again and you don't need to spend a few quids repairing it..

As a matter of fact, having EGR or not, is practically the same...

im sure I read somewhere on a citroen forum as the 1.6 hdi has dpf you cant just block off egr, but that could be wrong?, might of been a c4 forum
