Have you checked engine mounts?
Does your gear lever rock back and forward under accerlation or braking?
This is one of those pain in the arse faults!

Hi Homeruk,
Engine mounts are ok, I will monitor gear stick movement. I went for a drive to Manly yesterday & when I went to drive up a driveway the small bump at the beginning caused whatever is grinding to occur, when I reversed into the parking spot after turning around it stopped. So even a small bump is causing something to pop out of its place and grind, I'm wondering if its the struts, the coils are ok, or could it be something with the steering

Hi Pitpan,
I was thinking of broken coil spring (happened to ours right at the top) but you say you'rs are ok.

Hi Griff,
Thanks, yes there is nothing amiss with the coils but the grinding noise is definitely coming from under the engine around the center, I monitored it yesterday when it happened after going over a small sleeping policeman in a car park. I turned the steering from side to side a few times and it stopped. But it is something to do with the wheels, driveshaft, anti roll bar as the noise increases and decreases with what speed I am doing.

Third engine mount is around there could the mountings be worn?
Steering rack loose?
Wheel bearing shot, that would get louder the faster you went?
Has the noise been getting worse?

Hi homer,
No the noise is a metal sounding grind but does not happen all the time only when I go over a bump which must be dislodging something
