My 2.0Hdi had the 'mechanical' crank pulley - it was covered in brown rust and made a proper racket at tickover but mainly when warmed up.
Changed it to a Corteco OEM 'rubber' bonded pulley and fine since.
I did have crank pulley completely separate on my TDCI Transit with no warning whatsoever so they aren't a component to ignore.

Just been to collect the car and the pulley swap has cured the rattling/ticking/tapping noise. One of the bushes on the ARB drop links had also perished and was making a clunking sound and has been replaced, so overall the car is now a much nicer place to be. Rob reckons that one of the idlers or the tensioner on the V belt may be nearing end of life, but I'll monitor that for the next few weeks/months.
Rob showed me the old pulley and there was movement in more planes than it was designed for. It also made a familiar ringing/tapping sound when clonked with a spanner. It was definitely the culprit.
So, all in all, a result. Does this thread now get transferred to the 'Solved' section, and if so, how?

Just edit your first post using the "full" option and add -Solved to the title, I think that will do and I'll move the thread later.
