Changing front passenger seat
#1
Hello, I have a 2006 Partner Escapade (boo, hiss etc Wink). It's a car, not a van. The front passenger does not fold down flat and I'd like to swap it for one that does. I'd get a garage to do it because I have no experience in this kind of thing. I may end up just PXing for a van instead! I can't decide.

I've searched various threads and not entirely sure on what does or doesn't fit.

Do vans and cars have different fittings? Will a MK1 fit into a MK2?

I've had a look on ebay over the past few months and all the pre-MK3 Berlingo/Partner/van/car seats look the same as what I have........ So it should be 'fairly' straightforward?

I would like the same feature on my 07 Escapade, Noel - make it much easier to kip in on the odd occassion.
I did read a bit on another forum that reckoned we need one that folds for rear access - so doesn't have the sliding doors,
maybe a van seat folds flat for rear access?

I think most of the folding ones I've seen on ebay come from vans. They're often described as having a plastic 'table' top when folded down. When folded flat they have two cup holders so the tradesman can have a brew! Not sure why they need two though?..... Because if the seat is down you're unlikely to have a passenger...

Anyway, they don't always state whether it's a folding seat but the cup holders and hard plastic 'table top' is the giveaway on the photos. Most sellers say they fit into both Berlingos and Partners but I think one thread on here mentioned grinding and welding things? So it didn't sound that straightforward.

I'd like it for the extra length (ladders etc) so you'd probably have to completely take out the single seater in the back. But I think a hinderance could be the 2 seater in the back that actually covers about 2/3rds of the width. So it's still not ideal?

I fitted pair of seats from a MK1 van to my MK2 van exactly the same bolts and fittings. The only thing I had to switch over was the seatbelt fastener as it had the seatbelt alarm switch in it.

One thing to be aware of is the folding seat does not slide forward and backwards, it is in a fixed position. (Well mine is anyway)
Another thing to be aware of is they don't fit straight in due to the way the van seats are fixed to the floor.

But more info in this post:

Thanks Bob. Very helpful.

Just another point I thought I'd make if anyone else is thinking of doing this is that not all van front passenger seats fold. I guess it was an optional extra or only came with certain models. But certainly not all Berlingo and Partner vans have folding seats.

My berlingo mk 2 2003 model folds down. The back falls forward, to reveal the tray top, and then a 2nd lever tilts the whole seat (and back) forward I to passenger well.
Two levers, two actions.......-
