Inner CV boot saga

I have a 54 plate 1.9DW engine van that needed the O/S inner CV boot replaced due to a cut in the old one. Cut appeared after a new clutch installed by a large specialist chain, sadly the cut was not noticed after some weeks after where grease had been sprayed around the boot area.

After the usual struggle separating the ballpoint to withdraw the shaft, split the joint that was straightforward then the fun started. The boot supplied did not have the tri lobes on the large end of the boot as the flange is not circular. Phoned my local motor factors who ordered a replacement, that turned out to be lacking the lobes again. Part was double checked so they offered to get a genuine citroen one ( at about £30!) which I agreed. Went to collect it today and guess what, no lobes again. A possibility was a replacement driveshaft had been installed prior to my ownership so the incredibly helpful assistant and owner rummaged around their stock producing one from a Ford Transit Connect with the lobes as required. Despite being very slightly too large did the job assisted with some sealant and very tight band.

The part supplied was Shaftec BK1015 and certainly saved the day for me.

The shop had not had an instance such as this before saying, understandably they hardly sell any inner boots usually the outers.

Hopefully this may help someone else in a similar predicament.

Eurocarparts, complete new shaft @£40+ vat! they ain't worth repairing.

As for why it posted 3 times, no idea, blame the iPad....

I replace a D/S boot by cutting along the mould seam with a craft knife and use superglue to rejoin, works well and quick too. Did I say they last well ? Well they lasts years for me each time.

Geoff, your method was to be my next attempt, although I didn't realise the who shaft was only £40 ish at that time until Lighty enlightened me.

Super glue is only a short term fix super glue is not flexible enough you need a glue like fixsal polymer glue that is not moisture activated and more flexible and will flex with the rubber

Perhaps it is the Superglue I get from work that is a better quality glue than available in the shops ???

Seriously I get years from a glued boot, last one I did was on my old Citroen C15 and this covered around 40K miles which was around the same mileage I'd get from a motor factors exchange drive joint before the vibes set in.
